On February 6, 2010, the Prince William Ice Center collapsed under two feet of snow that was delivered to the Northern Virginia area. Facing the reality of not having a 2010-2011 season, the members of the Prince William Hockey Club voted to use their fees paid for ice time, combine it with volunteer labor from its members to build a place to be their home for the season. Through 10 weeks of hard work, determination, and faith in the cause, the members put together what became fondly called the Lumberyard. The name came from the fact that the building was formerly an 84 Lumber warehouse. With the rebuilding of Prince William Ice Center, the Prince William Hockey Club will be returning to Woodbridge, VA for the 2011-2012 season.
The Haymarket Iceplex will begin operation on April 1, 2011. We will be open to the public to offer youth in-house and travel hockey leagues, adult hockey leagues, skating lessons, learn to play hockey classes, public skating, figure skating lessons, parties, etc.
There are significant renovations planned for the Iceplex. Those renovations include permanent locker rooms with showers, pro shop, snack bar, party rooms, heated viewing areas, hockey dryland training area, etc. The Haymarket Iceplex will be the premier hockey and skating facility in the Northern Virginia area.
