About Us

Hawthorn Gallery's and Birmingham's own Terry Strickland delivers an illustrated master class in the June issue of The Artist's Magazine.

The extensive profile, "Facing Life Head-On", features many of Terry's paintings. A step-by-step explanation of Terry's working process is accompanied by color photos that show the progress of one painting from pencil drawing on canvas to a completed work of a young man wearing a masquerade mask. Incidentally, "Masquerade" sold at the special artist's studio visit we held for Terry's collectors at her home in January.

The Artist's Magazine, is a must-read monthly for thousands of artists, collectors and gallerists. The publication's content helps artists "master their craft and manage their business," says Editor Maureen Bloomfield.

Strickland joins a historically significant list of important artists -- Juliette Aristides, Daniel Green, Nelson Shanks, Burton Silverman, Robert Liberace and Sharon Sprung are but a few -- who have revealed their studio techniques and stylistic tips.

There is even a photo of Terry's palette and a detailed list of its colors, their brand name, her recipe for varnish mixture, even the brushes that imbue her figurative paintings with luminous skin tones and sensuous fabrics.

As Strickland explained to The Artist's Magazine reporter Paula Theotocatos, "I'll spend minutes mixing a color that's only used for one or two strokes. ... I want the paint to become flesh."
