History

Mrs. Gertrude M. Houck, a member of the Cambria County National Library Week committee, founded The Hastings Public Library in 1958. Over the years residents of Hastings, Elder Township and Susquehanna Township have contributed both money and hard work, resulting in a flourishing center of learning of which Hastings can be exceedingly proud. A grant enabled the library to install disabled ramps in 1995.

Librarians through the years have included Miss Margaret Stotsky (the first librarian), Mrs. Joanne
