About Us:

For nearly 40 years Halleck Creek Ranch has helped people with disabilities live a life without barriers through therapeutic horseback riding. Therapeutic horseback riding is a valuable form of physical and mental therapy, as well as an effective way for people with disabilities to access rugged terrain. Each week riders and volunteers from seven Bay Area counties travel to the ranch, which is located in the beautiful Nicasio Valley in Marin County, CA. The Halleck Creek Ranch staff pair gentle horses with dedicated volunteers, creating a dynamic team that carries our special riders into the beautiful Nicasio countryside. The program uses the powerful therapeutic benefits available through horseback riding in nature to create a better quality of life for children and adults with disabilities, and for the people who care for them. As one of the largest and oldest weekly therapeutic riding programs in the Bay Area, Halleck Creek Ranch is a pioneer in the field.

Halleck Creek Ranch owns many different breeds of horses, from tiny miniatures to giant draft horses. The diversity of the herd matches the diverse needs of our special riders. Halleck Creek Ranch horses live together in pastures and paddocks, allowing them to move freely and engage in their natural herd behaviors. Horses are donated to the ranch by private owners who want their horse to enjoy a partial retirement, while still being loved and useful. Working the easy pace of the therapy program is the perfect second career for these horses, and a great way to make use of their life experiences.
