About Us:
The Recreation and Parks Department provides a variety of athletic, recreational, and arts and crafts activities for all ages and special populations. The department maintains more than 25 parks and recreational facilities, including numerous gymnasiums, recreation and community centers, swimming pools, tennis courts, a soccer complex, softball and baseball fields, playgrounds, a greenway, as well as The Town Common and Greenville Amphitheater, River Park North, Bradford Creek Public Golf Course, the Aquatics and Fitness Center, the Extreme Park, and River Birch Tennis Center.
What separates Greenville and its recreation and parks department apart and earns it special recognition? The surprised look on first-time visitors to events in town that say, "I didn't know Greenville had all of this," tells part of the story. But the commitment to be all-inclusive while being flexible enough to think "outside of the box" makes Greenville Recreation and Parks Department unique.
A philosophy of "family, fun, foundation" promotes involvement for a lifetime and teaches not only skills for the courts and fields but also life skills such as teamwork and conduct. A tremendous sense of community pride has been created through the accomplishments of both individuals and teams. Being hosts to major events has given Greenville Recreation and Parks Department and the City a chance to show off not only its facilities, but also its hospitality and commitment to excellence.
Perhaps a local resident put it best, "I've been to other places and nobody in North Carolina does it better." She said, "The staff is so well organized and provides its citizens with a variety of activities. That's why Greenville is the best!"
