Grant County Fair

1948 - First Grant County Fair was held behind the Hotel Donald in Williamstown. It was a three day fair. No entry fees and no admission charges. It began with only seven members and over $1500 in premiums was awarded. Events included a Fiddling Contest and Fox Hound Show. The first Fair President was R.M. Lucas.

1950 - The Fair was moved to a larger location behind the Williamstown School Grounds.

1951 - Admission was 50 cents.

1953 - Fair moved behind the Grant County High School in Dry Ridge (now the Grant County Middle School). School band contest began.

1955 - Held first Miss Grant County Beauty Pageant. Casting and Rifle Contests and an Automobile Parade were held.

1958 - The First Baby Show was held.

1963 - Admission rose to $1.00 for adults and 35 cents for kids.

1970 - Royce Adams was elected President. He served as President for 18 years, the longest reigning President.

1971 - Beauty Queen, Charlesy Gulick, went on to win the Kentucky State Fair Beauty.

1973 - The Fair relocated to the park in Crittenden, built a 40 x 72 building for an exhibit hall and an open sided horse barn. The first Little Miss Contest was held.

1980 - Began our affiliation with Kissel Rides and Amusements.

1990 - Over $25,000 in premiums were awarded. New PA System was added.

1997 - Addition of the Martha Blaine Outdoor Theater, as a stage area for live entertainment. The band Hot Wax was added to the closing ceremonies.

2001 - Received two awards: "All County Fair" and "Most Progressive Fair"

2002 - First Miss Pre Teen Pageant was held.

2003 - Received "Most Progressive Fair" award at Annual Convention. Admission $7.00

2004 - Received "Most Progressive Fair" award at Annual Convention

2005 - Received "Most Progressive Fair" award at Annual Convention

2006 - Received "All County Fair" award.

2007 - Received $100,000 Grant from the Kentucky Department of Agriculture for the purchase of new fairgrounds.

2008 - Last year the Fair was held at The Grant County Park, in Crittenden.

2009 - First year the Fair is held at the new Northern Kentucky Fairgrounds on Baton Rouge Road in Williamstown.

2010 - The fair had a good year despite a failing economy. New Livestock Show Barn added on Extension property adjacent to the Fairgrounds. First annual Baton Rouge Blast was hosted with Fireworks, BBQ Contest and Battle of the Bands contest. Amphitheater hosted first wedding ceremony. Moto Cross races were added at the fairgrounds. Received three awards at the Annual Convention.

2011 First year that Miss Grant County Pageant was an open pageant,

2012 Gate admission was increased to $10 and discounted advance purchase admission tickets were available for $8.
