Overall Goal:

"To create an environment that stimulates people’s desire to learn, understand, and gain a better perspective about their lives and the world around them."

Objectives:

- To develop educational programs that will facilitate learning and perspective building.

- To preserve the collection of artifacts and present the history of Grand Marais in a way that helps people to respect how hard people used to live and work a century ago.

- To carry on the mission started by Axel Niemi to positively influence people -- especially young people.

- To emphasize the self-reliance of the Niemi family members so they may serve as positive role models.

- To preserve and expand the museum collection.
