About:
Gann Family Cellars is a small winery established by Gretchen and Michael Gann Schmahl. Michael’s ancestor, Isaac W. Gann, originally moved to Northern California in 1871 and purchased 154 acres.
The label is truly a family affair with Gretchen’s brother, Chris Knedel, working as the winemaker. Mr. Knedel graduated from UC Davis with a degree in Enology. During the mid 1990s, Michael got his MBA from St. Mary’s College and was able to devise an in-depth business plan for his winery during the process.
Gann Family Cellars has been known for outstanding Sauvignon Blanc since their founding. But the winery also plans on producing several other varietals in the future including Merlot, Syrah, Petite Sirah, Chardonnay, and Zinfandel.
The Gann Family’s Spring Hill Vineyard is the source of their Sauvignon Blanc grapes. A bit of the 2004 vintage was aged in oak for 5 months, but was not malolactically fermented. Less than 2,500 cases of this wine were produced.
