About Us :

An artists co-op named Gallery 142 first opened its doors to the public April 25, 2002, 6:00 pm. The Gallery is located on the first floor of the newly renovated Masonic Lodge building at 142 S. Woodland Blvd. in Historic Downtown DeLand, FL. The co-op was started by a group of established central Florida artists who practice a wide range of disciplines including painting, drawing, sculpting, and photography. Since the gallery is managed by the artists, the public has a unique experience of meeting the creators of the art displayed. This arrangement lends more of a personal connection to the art. All items are for sale and commission requests are also available. Additionally, Gallery 142 provides custom art for the interior design trade.

The gallery was the idea of local artist Sherrill Schoening who began as a textile designer for the fashion and design trade. Her expertise in working with dyes on silk evolved into her internationally collected tropical silk paintings. Harry Messersmith a sculptor who works in a variety of materials and is widely collected. Harry is currently a U.C.F. adjunct professor and previously served as director of the DeLand Museum of Art for six years. Don Nedobeck is a painter and illustrator of children's books. Don's art is extensively collected and reproduced. Other artists include: Sooz White, Debbie Lowe, Jorge Fernandini, Barry Colley, Ann-Elizabeth Mitchell & Cathy Berse. Applications for additional memberships in the co-op will be considered.
