The Friend of the Schenectady County Public Library was organized in 1962 to enhance and
support Library programs through donations of both time and money.

The Friends of the Library raises funds through membership dues, donations and semi-annual book sales. In addition to book sales at the Central Library, the Friends also operates the Whitney Book Corner, at the corner of Clinton and Union Streets.
