Our Mission

The Friends of the Library is an organization dedicated to improving library resources and services.  It is an opportunity for patrons to become directly involved in making the library a community center.

The Friends of Bayport-Blue Point Public Library is a New York State chartered non-profit organization that was formed in 1989.  We are a group of volunteers who work in cooperation with the Library staff and whose main objective is to provide additional funding for special programs and items to further enhance our wonderful Library.  The money we receive from your membership fees and fundraising efforts supports such programs as lectures and music programs; restoration and maintenance of the Library's classic Steinway grand piano; holiday decorations; purchase of books in honor of new born children; purchase of computer and computer projection equipment; support for the Children's Department; hospital visit program; free blood pressure screening; support for community programs such as the high school year book, booster club, Vinnie Perri Scholarship Fund and Chamber of Commerce St. Patrick's Day Parade to name but a few!  In addition, the Friends work to intensify community awareness and use of the Library; work for library legislation and appropriations and volunteer to work in the Library on specific tasks or projects designed by the Director.
