Freeburg in the past five years surged forward in the recreation area upon the completion of a survey by Southern Illinois University of the needs of Freeburg. A board was formed and immediately 65 acres of adjacent land was purchased for a park. Development of the park was accomplished with volunteer community help from all civic organizations of Freeburg. The Village can also boast of a memorial park in the center of the village dedicated to the veterans of the World Wars, It covers a city block in the center of the business district.
