The 15thAnnual Festival of Wood, sponsored by the US Forest Service, the Pocono Arts Council, and Grey Towers Heritage Associationat Grey Towers National Historic Site in Milford, PA is a public educationprogramthatheightens awareness about the importance of wood in our society and how professional and scientific forestry helps meet that continued need. It also serves as an ecotourism venue for regional commercial and tourism entitiesand provides an outreach opportunity for the participants to promote wood-related and forestry programs.
The annual event has grown to include unique crafts made from wood, children’s activities with wood and wood products and a number of educational demonstrations and programs. Last year’s festival drew over3,000 patrons from the Tri-State area. For 2019, we are limiting the fine craft exhibitors to no more than 25and diversity in wood media is expected.
Grey Towers, the ancestralhome of Gifford Pinchot, is the ideal location for a Festival of Wood. Pinchot was the founder and first chief of the US Forest Service, championing the practice of sustainable forestry. Todaythe US Forest Service and its many partners utilize the 1886-mansion and 102 acres to perpetuate the Pinchot conservation legacy with educational programs such as thisFestival.
