Fairfax State Recreation Area is operated by the Indiana Department of Natural Resources and is located on the west side of Monroe Lake. The recreation area features a swimming beach, boat ramp, and picnic areas.

Fairfax SRA is also home to Fourwinds Resort and Marina, which offers overnight accommodations and dining options as well as a full service marina and boat rental service
