History

El Monte, the End of the Santa Fe Trail, was also home to the famous Gay's Lion Farm in the 30s, where that roaring lion on the familiar MGM logo came from. The El Monte Library was founded in 1890, and joined the Los Angeles County Public Library in 1913. It has been at its present location since 1967.
