Highlighting Manhattan

East River Waterfront Esplanade South

East River Bikeway
New York, NY 10005

The East River Waterfront Esplanade (ERW) project is revitalizing the two-mile long public open space between the Battery Maritime Building (at Broad Street) and Montgomery Street. The area between Wall Street and Maiden Lane is now open to the public and includes bar and lounge seating, plantings, a look-out, and a new dog run.

Focused on public enjoyment, sustainability, and community recreation, the two-phase plan for the ERW will build and renovate sections of the esplanade to connect the Manhattan Greenway and create a continuous bikeway. The park will improve waterfront access, enhance accessibility for pedestrians and cyclists, and create public amenities. The new esplanade will also improve the quality of life for local residents, workers and visitors who will enjoy new communal space, facilities, and programming.

Attractions near the Esplanade include the South Street Seaport, a major dining and retail destination at Fulton Street and Pier 17, and the Battery Maritime Building, the ferry departure hub for Governors Island.

Time: 6am-midnight.
