Highlighting Brooklyn

Dreamstreet Theatre Company

Lincoln Place
Brooklyn, NY 11201

Dream Street Theatre was founded in 2001 by Karuna Heisler to bring the joy of theatre to special needs performers in a time where access to the arts was limited to those with unique abilities.  After Karuna passed away, her husband and daughter, Len and Kendra Heisler, continued to support Dream Street and Karouna's legacy with Susan Dodge at the helm.  Dream Street has now evolved into an important creative resource in the special needs community and seeks to provide support for caregivers and families of disabled individuals.  We want our website to serve as a "go to" resource for parents and care givers who want to raise the quality of time and interaction with their special needs person by imitating the activities listed in our media section.

Our mission is to create a socially creative community for special needs individuals with a passion for performance to grow their talents and show the world just how uniquely able they are.  Dreamstreet cast members have demonstrated their philosophy that maximum self-expression leads to maximum self-esteem, leading cast members to become role models in the special needs community.  Our live shows attempt to break down stereo-typing, so audiences see the amazing talent of our performers and not only a face of disability.  We also hope to eventually offer a summer program for children with special needs that will harbor creative talents, foster confidence and educate caretakers on the profund effect art can have on life.
