Draai Laag was founded in 2009 to introduce unique, style bending, Belgian inspired Ales. However, many ask what is the story and inspiration of Draai Laag?  Dennis spent some time overseas and was ultimately taken back by the complex beers, no one would ever find. Imagine, you find a phenomenal product, but will never get a chance to try it again. Well, in Europe, particularly Belgium, you'll find amazing village breweries that give an appearance of someone's basement or barn, some of which have dirt floors and moss covered roofs. Contrarily, some give an appearance of a street café or corner store. However they appear, if you judge these breweries by their building, decor or lack of advanced equipment, you'll be doing yourself an injustice.
The most intriguing, complex and wonderful flavors that a beer aficionado would appreciate are produced by these quaint, hidden breweries and considered some of the world's most diverse and interesting creations. They produce a small amount of each product and when it's gone, "it's gone". Most likely, these products will never be commercially available on any scale in which they will be recognized. Thus, the experience is truly within the bottle. Â
We strive to emulate the concept of these small village breweries. Our equipment is not impressive and we bottle everything by hand. We take a simplistic approach to create something complex and different using quality ingredients, multiple yeast strain fermentations, style integration, bottle conditioning and long cask maturation periods with extended aging. We don't hop on the recent style trending bandwagon, use fancy packaging or expensive advertising.Â
