History:

Begun by Home Demonstration Ladies in 1948, the library has grown from a small room in the county courthouse to the present library/museum facility.  The library is funded by the City of Carrizo Springs and Dimmit County. 1980 marked the building of the present library.  2002 the Wade House Memorial Museum addition was added and the entire library was renovated.  New furniture was bought with a Tocker Grant. In 2007 the old conference room was transformed into the Children’s Library with help from local donations and a Tocker Grant for furniture. The library has 3 full-time employees and volunteers that run the day-to-day operations.  The library is fully accredited by the Texas State Library with access to databases and Inter Library Loan.  Through numerous grants (TIF, Gates, Millennium, Loan Star Libraries, SBC, Chevy Rock, Summerlee, Ewing Halsell and various oil field companies such as 3S and SM Energy the library has been able to offer its patrons many beneficial and educational programs.  Local grants and donations have funded library materials and equipment over the years.  Our Summer Reading Program occurs each year in June and July and we have on-going access to internet, educational databases, online college courses, testing facilitation, resume and online job application, college registration, and other activities to foster education and community outreach.  We work with our local, state and national governmental organizations to stimulate awareness on timely issues regarding local and surrounding communities.  Up-to-date periodicals, CD’s and DVD’s and more.
