About Us:
CTM Madison Family Theatre Company and School is a non-profit, tax-exempt organization founded in 1965 as the Children's Theatre of Madison by four community groups: The American Association of University Women, Madison Junior Women's Club, Edgewood College, and Zeta Phi Eta Professional Speech and Drama. Dedicated to developing the creative spirit within the community, CTM produces a season of six full-length plays and two Summer Drama School productions, reaching an audience of thousands of children, teens, adults, and seniors from throughout southern Wisconsin, including teachers and students attending our reduced-price educational matinees.
In addition to the production season, CTM offers two three-week Summer Drama School sessions in which students participate in intensive study of the components of theater. Instructors focus on Acting, Movement, Voice, and Dance. Summer Drama School students have the unique opportunity to apply their classroom theory by collaborating on a theatrical production at the end of the each session, a fully staged musical or play for the public. During the summer, CTM also offers three one-week Theatre Week sessions, which introduce children ages 9-14 to acting and technical aspects of theater, and beginning acting classes for children aged 5-9. CTM also offers multiple six-week sessions of classes for children and adults during the school year, as well as six-week sessions offered in area schools.
CTM contributes to a dynamic artistic community by encouraging new talent, cultivating critical audiences, and developing an appreciation of live theater that transcends racial and socioeconomic lines. In order to develop new talent, no previous experience is required to audition for CTM productions. Many new actors are cast and their talent developed through the process of production and guidance from fellow actors and experienced artistic personnel. More experienced actors become mentors to newer actors in the productions.
