The Columbia Historical Museum opened its doors in 1990 in a beautiful stone and marble building built in 1950 and used as a bank. The Museum pays tribute to the rich history of West Columbia, the First Capitol of the Republic of Texas, established in 1836. The mission of the museum is to bring better understanding and appreciation of the rich history of West and East Columbia to Brazoria County.
