Our Story:

Over a decade ago, Columbia Heights Day was created to bring unity to the diverse Columbia Heights community and celebrate the neighborhood's history and traditions. As the first board of directors began planning for this event, they knew it had to be sustainable. That meant getting support from the entire neighborhood, not just one block or one segment. They wanted to get support and involvement from churches, art centers, local community organizations, small businesses, and community residents from diverse socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds.

As the support for the first Columbia Heights Day gained momentum, the community came together to create an event showcasing local businesses, artistic movements, local food, family oriented games, and varied entertainers. That momentum has propelled us for the last ten years. Today, our mission remains the same; to enrich the quality of life in Columbia Heights by creating local events where residents and visitors can connect and celebrate our neighborhood.

We thank the visionaries of the first Columbia Heights Day: Sergio Herrera, Rose Donna, Iris Chavez, Allison Basker and Alan Petner. Without you, none of this would be possible! And, a continued thanks to the Columbia Heights community, board members, small businesses, and all of our volunteers, who make the event a success every year!
