Mission

The mission of the Coachella Valley Historical Society, Inc. is to preserve, interpret, and share the artifacts that create a dialogue about the evolving history of the Coachella Valley.

The Coachella Valley History Museum:
is a historical campus which contains the 1926 adobe Smiley-Tyler House - housing our main exhibits - the historic 1909 Indio Schoolhouse and the world's only Date Museum.  Other highlights include our Desert Submarine, a Blacksmith's shop, pioneer farming implements and the archives for the Historical Society.  Also, the spacious grounds hold a variety of gardens which include a Memorial Date Garden, Japanese Garden, the Geissler Rose Garden, the Jardin del Desierto (Desert Garden)  and our Liberty Tree - the oldest Cork Tree in the Coachella Valley.

The Coachella Valley Historical Society, Inc. (dba The Coachella Valley History Museum) was incorporated on September 3, 1965, by a dedicated group of valley residents who understood the need to preserve our history for generations to come.  Since the opening of the museum in 1984 to present day, the operation of the campus has been run primarily by a dedicated group of volunteers We welcome all to experience the rich history of the Coachella Valley History Museum by visiting and becoming a member.  Each day history is being made - why not be part of it!
