History

The Clifton Park Community Orchestra was founded in the fall of 1998 by Paul Konye, its current conductor. The orchestra was founded as a musical outfit solely dedicated to its primary mission of re-integrating art (classical) music experience--in all its varieties, with "real people" (the community) . Its main objective is to bring the invigorating and uplifting attributes of good music within the reach of all who crave it, either as players or audience members. Thus, C. P. C. O. presently adopts an open-door no-auditions policy to membership.

The orchestra presented its inaugural performance in the spring of 1999. In keeping with its objective of making art music accessible to all, the inaugural concert took place at the Clifton Country Mall where a large, though revolving, audience gathered to enjoy the music. The mall performance afforded many who otherwise might not have been exposed to such music an opportunity of experiencing a different kind of music--even if their encounter was brief. It is hoped that with such encounters will grow the curiosity of all those who come across it, and thirst more for such enriching experience with art music.

Also, in keeping with the spirit of the quintessential community orchestra, which C.P.C.O. aspires to be, the orchestra occasionally presents patriotic music on the 4th of July in celebration of Independence Day. The outdoor concert usually takes place at the Clifton Park Commons. .

C.P.C.O. owes its existence to the help of many too numerous to mention individually. However, the assistance, encouragement, and support of the following organizations and individuals were critical to its founding: The Clifton Park Town Hall, Captains, Siena College, Warner Cable, WAMC 90.3 Classical Radio Station, WMHT 89.1 Classical Radio Station, The Albany Times Union, Clifton Park Community News, Diane Ferriera, Pat O'Donell, and Susan Allen.
