History

Cheshire Community Theater was chartered in 1953 as an educational and literary organization to foster amateur dramatic talent. Each season, two to three plays are produced with direction and technical assistance provided by members of the organization. Over the past many seasons, over 168 plays have been staged. Only nine titles have been produced more than once. Cheshire Community Theater encourages Cheshire High School graduates to continue their education in the performing arts by providing an annual scholarship.

We have an impressive record of plays and musicals, and our productions are always hits with our audiences. The Philadelphia Story, La Cage aux Folles, Picnic, Fiddler on the Roof, Death of a Salesman, Miracle Worker, Man of La Mancha, The Sunshine Boys, and Kismet, are only a few of the more than 165 fully staged productions to our credit.

We began small and struggling, have grown over the years, and (like most groups of this size) continue to work hard to get a season up and running. Without question, the show must go on!

Our mission statement was written years ago and holds true today ... "provide good theatre to the public through amateur performances, by amateurs who contribute their time, effort, and talents to the good of the group." We invite you to come on along and listen to the lullaby of Broadway.
