The cook-off began in 1985 as a chili cook-off and won an international award from Pilot International for the best fund raiser for a new club. The event benefits Hospice of Northern Central Oklahoma. A few years later the event expanded to include barbecue. So now the multi-state event is a chili and barbecue cook-off. The club members work all year on the cook-off, which is set at Lake Ponca Park Pageant area.
