Catalina Players Theatre

3112 North Hill Farm Drive
Tucson, AZ 85712

Mission
We are a non-profit organization with a strong commitment to classic theatre along with special programs for new plays, ethnic plays and new voices in theatre while maintaining a high quality production, having an open door policy and having educational, charitable pursuits while having a dedication to sound financial management

History
Catalina Players began in 1983 under the direction of Ruth Tensing Debevoise and a handful of people who were drawn together by a common interest in drama study. Now, in its 22nd year, under the direction of Priscilla P. Marquez, Executive Director, Catalina Players has undergone marked changes, most notably its transformation from a small ensemble of church-based performers to an organization open to the public in both its attractions of audiences and its opportunities for artistic growth in production and performing.

The organization aligns its mission of producing high-quality plays, musical revues, and ethnic plays etc. with the sub-mission of encouraging community participation through its strong and growing outreach program and its choice of materials that will attract a more diverse set of participants. Within the last year, the organization has learned a great deal about the importance of partnerships in reaching out to diverse audiences. For example, with its partnership with the National Association of Women Business Owners and the Tucson Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, the organization has made formal linkages to groups, which can attract participants from specific areas of diversity and plans to integrate more of these relationships into next year’s plan. These activities have added to a long-standing custom of donating one night’s net revenues to a local non-profit, which has generated additional diversity in audiences and has provided tangible community benefit.
