Summer is hot in the Wiregrass Region of Alabama, which makes Blue Springs State Park in Cilo the perfect place to cool off. This park may be a secret swimming hole to the locals, but it is well worth the drive from anywhere in the state. While Blue Springs is a great summertime spot, it is welcoming year-round. If you are looking for a place to slow down and enjoy some peace and quiet, this is it! The park’s main attractions, the swimming pools, are fed by a crystal-clear underground spring that remains a cool 68 degrees year-round. The spring pumps 3,600 gallons of water per minute into the dual octagonal sandy-bottomed pools. Once over the spillway, kids can search for critters among the rocks in the shallows before it flows into west fork of the Choctawhatchee River.

Blue Springs State Park has a new playground. Thanks to a lot of hard work from The Friends of Blue Springs State Park, and a generous donation from the estate of the late Dr. Mac W. Porter, the new playground was dedicated November 8th 2014. Made of 100% recycled plastics and rubber, the playground is fully ADA approved. A large sandbox was added to the park as well. The sand for the sandbox was donated by Lil Dippers, a business local to the area. The play equipment was bought through Spencer Creek Recreation out of Atlanta, Georgia, who also handled the onsite assembly.
Blue Springs State Park gets its name from the natural spring that pumps 3,600 gallons of water per minute into two swimming areas. The water temperature is 68 degrees year-round. The spring is crystal clear with a sandy bottom and swimming is allowed at your own risk, no lifeguard is on duty.
