Our mission is to transform research into early learning experiences that inspire creative problem solving.
About Us
The Bay Area Discovery Museum (BADM) is a children’s museum where kids ages 0-10 can engage in playful exploration. Throughout our 7.5 acres of indoor and outdoor space, adults find endless opportunities to engage their children in activities and exhibits that are fun and creative, but also thoughtfully designed. BADM’s unique experiences ask children to use key creative problem-solving and thinking skills—which develop significantly during the first decade of life—but in a way that is exciting and relevant for them. There are not enough spaces where learning is made to be fun, and where fun encourages further learning. BADM fills that gap.
We know that activities and exhibits that tap into children’s passions and interests spark their curiosity to learn more. All of BADM’s experiences for children and adults are based on the findings of the Center for Childhood Creativity (CCC), BADM’s research and advisory division. The CCC and BADM work collaboratively to provide parents and caregivers with a safe space where they can encourage their children to try something new, watch them test out an original idea, and help them solve unexpected challenges.
Our daily drop-in programs, traveling and permanent exhibits, and special events encourage all children to discover and grow their natural curiosity for science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) concepts. We know that this learning happens best during early childhood, which is why all BADM activities are designed for children to achieve our seven, research-backed learning goals. Each time you visit BADM, you are helping your child to:
Be Curious
Come Up with New Ideas and Try Them Out
Make Thoughtful Decisions
Communicate Thinking
Take Risks and Persist Through Challenge
Learn to Collaborate
Build STEM Knowledge
