Baker Bowl State Park

Smith Park
Middletown, OH 45042

In the summer of 1998, the City of Middletown began investigating the various elements involved in providing a skatepark. Insurance issues and facility location were resolved and the next major step was to determine funding sources for the skatepark. During this time Baker Concrete Construction Company from Monroe, Ohio was searching for a community project in conjunction with " Make A Difference Day" and stepped forward to provide the material and labor to build a skatepark. In addition to Baker's major contribution, their staff and city staff were instrumental in recruiting donations or reduced cost for equipment and materials.

With input from youth in the community, Suburban Rails, from Athens, Ohio prepared the conceptual design for the Baker Bowl Skatepark. The city's engineering staff and Baker Concrete's staff finalized the conceptual plan into a working plan. What transpired was a unique, all concrete skatepark situated in the northeast corner of Smith Park that sits on a little over one-half acre of wooded land. The Baker Bowl Skatepark is designed to accommodate various skill levels. The beginners' area is located in the front portion of the Skatepark and contains a 2' to 3' deep bowl and a variety of benches and curbs. The center of the Skatepark is designed as an intermediate area and contains banks, rails, steps, benches and a variety of ramps. The rear portion of the Skatepark houses the advanced area and includes banks, quarter pipes and two spine bowls that are 6' to 8' in depth.

Baker Bowl Skate Park is open from dawn until dusk. No fee is charged to use the facility. Supervision is not provided and safety equipment is recommended.
