The County Museum is located on Court Street in downtown Appomattox Virginia in the County Courthouse complex. Click on Map Locator for precise location.
The Museum is housed in a Jeffersonian style building whose construction began in 1895. It was the third jail built in Appomattox County and was in continuous use from 1897 until 1981. Following the construction of a more modern facility the County Board of Supervisors allowed the Appomattox Historical Society to develop a Museum dedicated to County History.
Currently, the Museum has rooms dedicated to various facets of appomattox County life. Among the exhibits are an old jail cell, a country doctor's office, a turn of the century home kitchen, a collection of artifacts relating to the Appomattox River Indians, Civil War memorabilia, Various items of interest from Other Wars and a Gift Shop.
