Mission :

The Alton Public Library was established for the purpose of providing all residents of our community access to materials, services, and various sources of technology for education, information, and recreation.

Our goal is to inform and inspire, to enhance the quality of life and to foster lifelong learning.

In provision of these goals the Library Board feels a responsibility under the Federal Constitution to promote the broad dissemination of ideas upon which a democracy thrives, and it constantly strives to maintain and uphold the democratic principles of our American Heritage. To these ends, the Library Board supports the Freedom to Read Statement as adopted and amended by the American Library Association.
