Chase an eclipse and see the stars right from home with two upcoming online programs hosted by AARP in Cincinnati. Astronomer Dean Regas of the Cincinnati Observatory will use a computerized simulation to preview upcoming eclipses and take viewers flying through the solar system.
The Eclipse Chasing program, available via Zoom on Tuesday, May 18, from 1 to 2 p.m., will prepare attendees for the lunar eclipse coming on Wednesday, May 26, and the solar eclipse that will be visible at sunrise on Thursday, June 10.
During the online simulation, Regas will show what each eclipse will look like from Cincinnati, then transport viewers to the best places on Earth to see each event.
He will take participants’ questions online following the simulation.
In June, Regas will lead a virtual tour around the solar system. This event will be held via Zoom on Wednesday, June 23, from 11 a.m. to noon.
The program will illustrate the mind-boggling scale of the solar system and provide a close-up view of planets, moons and more. A live question-and-answer session will follow.
To register for one or both of the free sessions, go to aarp.org/cincinnati. Event links are emailed to participants after registration.
