You Can Help Empower Voters as a Volunteer

Posted on 07/01/24

The following guest post was submitted by Debbie Ducoff-Barone, President of the League of Women Voters of Greater Hartford.

The right to vote empowers us to use our voice to select the candidates running for office

that we believe will best represent our interests and principles. As a volunteer with the League of Women Voters – a 104-year strong, nonpartisan, grass roots organization that emerged from the suffrage movement – you have the power to ensure everyone exercises that right.

There are over 700 leagues nationwide and 22 local Leagues in Connecticut. The League of Women Voters Greater Hartford (LWVGH) covers Hartford and surrounding towns. All the leagues help support Vote411.org which is an unbiased online guide to elections covering federal, state, and local races.

Our mission is to empower voters and defend democracy. We encourage informed and active participation in government through enhancing understanding of public policy issues and influencing policy through education and advocacy. We research public issues of concern to the community, such as election laws, healthcare, education, and the environment. All members are encouraged to voice their perspective and ideas.

LWV volunteers work to protect everyone’s freedom to vote because every vote matters. They are as involved and active as they are able and enjoy the time invested, whether it’s for an hour or to lead an ongoing project. We are an active and engaged group of civic-minded people who roll up their sleeves to make change! Would you like to join us?
