Watch AARP and KOMO News “Seattle for All Ages” Mayoral Debate

Posted on 10/01/17 by Christina Clem, AARP California

What should the future of Seattle look like? How can we make the city a place where people of all ages can be healthy, independent and part of a vibrant community?

If you missed the debate broadcast, there is still time to watch candidates Jenny Durkan and Cary Moon as they share their views on issues like safe, walkable streets, better housing and transportation options, and opportunities for residents to connect and engage in the community life of our city no matter their age.

Moderated by Mary Nam, anchor of KOMO’s Emmy Award winning newscasts the live debate occurred on Tuesday, October 10.

“We were happy to hear how our mayoral candidates will help disrupt the concept of aging to successfully build communities that benefit all ages,” said Doug Shadel, AARP Washington State Director. “We cannot succeed as a city unless we approach policy and projects with the needs of multiple generations in mind.”

“We are pleased to partner with AARP in presenting this important debate,” said Pat Costello, KOMO-TV News Director. “Seattle is at a critical juncture on a myriad of issues like homelessness, transportation, and affordability. It’s vital that voters hear directly from the candidates about their plans to solve these complex problems.”

This event is presented with support from members of the Age Friendly Seattle Task Force, working to help older adults age in community with dignity and independence.
