The tour will kick off at 8:30 a.m. at MetroLink’s Shrewsbury station, 7201 Lansdowne Ave. Participants will catch a train to downtown St. Louis before exploring on their own two feet.
They will walk across the Eads Bridge, visit the new Gateway Arch grounds, the Old Courthouse, Kiener Plaza and Citygarden before stopping for lunch at a coffee shop.
“It will be a great adventure,” said walk coordinator and AARP volunteer Loretta Davis, 64, of Florissant. She’s developing trivia questions for specific city sights.
Ten Toe Express is a program created by Citizens for Modern Transit, which promotes the expansion of MetroLink in St. Louis and surrounding suburbs.
Kim Cella, Citizens for Modern Transit executive director, said she hopes participants discover the value of transit, including its health and social benefits, while exploring the city.
AARP in St. Louis will pay the registration fees for members and one guest. The train ride is not included in the registration fee. Space is limited. Members can register by clicking here or calling 877-926-8300. —Katie Pohlman
