AARP Experience Corps is recruiting volunteers who are interested in tutoring first, second and third graders within various Phoenix elementary school districts and Tempe Elementary Schools for the 2019-2020 school year.
AARP Experience Corps is a literacy skills tutoring program designed to provide support to struggling students in the area of reading.
AARP Experience Corps volunteers are asked to commit for an entire school year, donate five to seven hours per week and provide one-on-one tutoring to kids at least two times a week. Program training is provided by AARP Experience Corps.
Volunteers must possess a high school diploma and agree to a complete criminal background (fingerprint clearance) and reference check.
The City of Phoenix AARP Experience Corps Tutoring Program is now recruiting volunteer reading tutors for the 2019-2020 school year!
AARP Experience Corps in partnership with the city of Phoenix, is an intergenerational volunteer-based tutoring program (ECPhx) that is proven to help children who are not reading at grade level become better readers by the end of third grade. We recruit, train, and support adult volunteers to help children strengthen their reading fluency and improve their reading skills by 3rd grade through a trained program model. The Experience Corps model is a ESSA approved intervention strategy with measurable benefits for students, as well as positive mental and physical health benefits for volunteers who participate. By helping young students become better readers, Experience Corps seeks to ensure a legacy of strong futures, supported schools and empowered volunteers. We inspire and empower adults 50 and older to serve in their community and disrupt the cycle of poverty by making a lasting difference in the lives of America’s most vulnerable children. https://www.phoenix.gov/education/experience
