Volunteer Embraces a Passion for Service

Posted on 03/01/25 by AARP Bulletin

Retiring from her accounting career in 2007, Patti Fisher embraced her passion for volunteerism.

From her home west of Wasilla, she’s been a garden club president, Meadow Lakes Community Council member, recycling educator, grant-application writer, AARP Alaska volunteer and all-around catalyst for improving Meadow Lakes Park.

Fisher is the most recent recipient of AARP Alaska’s top volunteer tribute, the Andrus Award for Community Service. To Fisher, now 84, it’s not about accolades — it’s the results of the work. The park’s enhancements — “That is the reward,” she says.
