Veterans Jamboree Offers Support For Vets, Family Members

Posted on 10/06/22

Veterans and and their families learned about benefits they earned and how to protect themselves against fraud during a free Veterans Jamboree seminar on Oct. 19 at Weinberg Hall at Keehi Lagoon.

“AARP Hawai`i, the Hawai`i Office of Veterans Services and the Hawai`i Veterans Foundation sponsored the Veterans Jamboree as a one-stop shop so veterans can get their questions answered,” said Jackie Boland, AARP Hawai`i Outreach Director. “There were also workshops on stress management, estate planning and on frauds that target veterans, including recent reports of scammers using the PACT Act to try to get personal information or payments to apply for benefits for you. Veterans should know that Veterans Administration representatives and accredited veterans service organizations will help you apply for benefits at no cost to the veteran.”

The Veterans Benefits Administration, Wounded Warrior Project, Catholic Charities, AARP and other agencies held a Resource Fair to offer information and answer questions about services provided to veterans. A Mobile Vet Center also gave out flu shots and blood pressure checks.
