Posted on 09/23/22 by Priscilla Orpinela-Segura

As part of our celebration for Hispanic Heritage Month, we virtually sat down with four community leaders from throughout California, who’ve made contributions in the fields of community, art, business and policy. Each week, we’ll unveil a video from our series!

Unidos through Community:
At the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, Darlene Tenes of San Jose, started a small caravan to provide farmworkers with food and essential supplies. Watch her video to learn how her movement grew.

Unidos through Entrepreneurship:
Ricardo Villa currently serves as the President of the San Diego County Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. As Chairman, Ricardo has supported local entrepreneurs and their goal to expand. During the pandemic, this became especially important as he worked with entrepreneurs who were at risk of losing their businesses. Learn more about his work.

Unidos through Art:

Margaret Garcia is a Los Angeles based Chicana artist and muralist who highlights her culture through colorful portraits and landscape. Margaret’s work is currently displayed at LA Plaza de Cultura y Artes. Learn more about her story and work.

Unidos making Policy Changes:

Based in Sacramento, Eduardo Rubalcava is an AARP volunteer who helps create change. By participating in AARP’s Lobby Days, Eduardo meets with policymakers and helps inform them about issues affecting older adults and their families. Watch the video to learn about his contributions and passion for policy.
