There's Still Time to Complete the 2020 Census

Census field workers are leaving 2020 Census information packets and paper Census forms at households that haven’t answered the Census yet.

If you received a packet or if you haven’t answered the 2020 Census yet, you can do so online at my2020cenus.gov, by calling toll-free 1-844-330-2020 or filling out and returning a paper 2020 Census form.

The coronavirus pandemic complicated this year’s Census, delaying field operations and the completion of the 2020 Census. Census workers began field operations earlier in June and are taking precautions to drop off packets safely.

Because of the online and phone options, it has never been easier to fill out the Census without having a Census worker visit in person, which may be the next step if you don’t complete the 2020 Census.

It’s also never been more important because the Census helps determine billions of dollars in federal funding for Hawai`i, including how much money the state received in pandemic relief funds. It’s estimated that every 1 percent of people undercounted in the census costs the state $37 million a year.That’s why AARP is helping to make sure that everyone is counted. We especially want to make sure that people 50 and older are counted so that federal programs to help older Americans are fully funded in Hawai‘i.

One more note – Census workers will never ask for your Social Security number or personal financial information, like bank account numbers. If you receive a phone call, email, text message or visit from someone claiming to be from the Census and asking for financial information, it’s probably a scam. You can call 1-844-330-2020 to check on the credentials of a Census field worker and send suspicious emails, texts and websites to ois.fraud.reporting@census.gov.
