Access to parks and natural areas has been shown to reduce stress, improve coping abilities, lessen social isolation, enhance relationship skills and improve cognitive function. Parks are spaces that build community pride, bring people together and increase civic engagement and the sense of belonging regardless of age, gender, ethnicity, religion or income.
Join AARP Rhode Island and Age-Friendly Rhode Island on Wednesday, July 28 at 10 a.m. for this FREE virtual webinar as we welcome Terrence Gray, Acting Director, for the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management (DEM).
Gray has 34 years of experience at the DEM, including his continuing role as the Deputy Director for Environmental Protection and presently leading the organization in protecting, restoring, managing and promoting Rhode Island’s environment and natural resources to preserve and improve our quality of life.
He will speak about DEM’s focus and how the department strikes a balance to preserve outdoor spaces while ensuring accessibility to the public for all to enjoy. Other topics include climate change impact, funding resources, and how concerned citizens can be involved in both statewide and local conversations.
