Take Action: Fight Against Utility Rate Hikes

Posted on 04/25/24 by AARP South Carolina

House Bill 5118, the much talked about Energy Security Act is now in the Senate. State Senators will soon take up debating this bill. AARP SC delivered a letter to Senators.

Senators urging them to vote NO on the bill in its current form. The Senate Judiciary Committee has amended the bill to reinstate some consumer and regulatory protections.

It is critical to keep the number of Public Service Commissioners at the current level, keeping the Consumer Advocate in the Department of Consumer Affairs, and allowing the Office of Regulatory Staff to maintain its current mission of acting on behalf of consumers.

Call your state senator today at 866-479-7431 and urge them to vote no on HB5118

The Senate will adjourn on Thursday, May 9, 2024. If no action is taken the bill will expire as a legislative bill.
