Take A Step Toward Better Health with Walk with a Doc
Studies have shown that walking offers many benefits, including weight management, stress reduction, cardiovascular health, strength, balance, and more. That’s why AARP Tampa Bay is excited to sponsor a Tampa Walk with a Doc Chapter in collaboration with TampaWell, and activated by Tampa General Hospital in partnership with the City of Tampa.
With an aim to make hope and well-being accessible to all, Walk with a Doc offers a simple, sustainable solution based on the four pillars of physical activity, social connectedness, education, and connecting with nature. With more than 100 reasons to participate, Walk with a Doc offers an all-in-one prescription for a healthy life based on four pillars of physical activity, health education, social connection and time in nature:
- Exercise: Walking is one of the most important things we can do for our health.
- Education: The health practitioners who lead the walks will provide walkers with tips on maintaining a healthy lifestyle, and walkers can ask them health-related questions while they walk.
- Social Connection: Research suggests that connectedness with others can improve quality of life, boost mood, and decrease depression
- Nature: Spending time outdoors can be very beneficial for both physical and mental health.
Walk with a Doc inspires communities through movement and conversation with physician-led walking groups. The monthly walking group is a safe, fun and FREE place to get some steps in, learn about health and meet new friends. The group meets the second Saturday of each month at 8:30 a.m. at Woodland Terrace Park located at 6410 N 32nd Street, Tampa, Florida 33610.
Join us on Saturday, Nov. 11 at 8:30 a.m. for our next Walk with a Doc event and then stick around to help lend a hand painting a mural at Tampa General Hospital's newly developed space where they have constructed a community garden, food pharmacy, and gathering space for educational programming. To participate in the mural painting, please pre-register.
