Stay Safe. Vote Absentee.

Posted on 07/10/20

AARP Wisconsin is encouraging Wisconsinites to stay safe this election season by requesting an absentee ballot for all remaining 2020 elections. To request an absentee ballot visit myvote.wi.gov or contact your local municipal clerk. You can make the request now for both the August 11 Primary Election and the November 3 General Election. No need to wait, request your ballots today.

Here’s what you need to know about Absentee Voting in Wisconsin:

Under Wisconsin law, voters do not need a reason to vote absentee. To request an absentee ballot:
• You must be registered to vote, and your name and address must be current.
• To check your registration or register to vote, go to myvote.wi.gov or contact your local municipal clerk.
• Request an absentee ballot online at myvote.wi.gov and click “Vote Absentee.”
• Request an absentee ballot by email or mail by contacting your local municipal clerk.

Photo ID:
• A copy of an acceptable photo ID must accompany your first request for an absentee ballot.
• Include a photocopy with a mailed request.
• Upload a picture of your ID at myvote.wi.gov with an online request.
• Learn more about photo ID at bringit.wi.gov.

Deadlines:
• Your request must be received by August 6 for the August 11 Primary.
• Your request must be received by October 29 for the November 3 General Election.
• You can request absentee ballots for both elections at the same time.
• Start early. Allow extra time for mailing.

Witness Signature:
• Your absentee ballot requires the signature and address of a witness. Witnesses must be adult U.S. citizens.

Early Voting:
• Wisconsin also has in-person early voting. Go to your local municipal clerk’s office (or other designated location) to request and cast your absentee ballot at the same time. Contact your local municipal clerk for details.
