Stay on Top of Scams in SD with the AARP Scam-Tracking Map

Posted on 08/23/17 by Leah Miller

No matter where you live, fraud is never far away. Protect yourself by knowing what to watch out for in your own area – and warn others by reporting your own experiences with the AARP Fraud Watch Network’s  scam-tracking map.

How it Works:

  • Visit our interactive scam-tracking map to find out about scams happening across the country and close to home.
  • Click on alert icons to read reported scams in your local area.
  • Use our pull-down menu to see law enforcement alerts in your state.

What You Should Know:

  • If you suspect a scam, use the scam-tracking map’s keyword search to see if others have had the same experience. For example, a search for “tech support” pulls up scams where crooks are posing as tech support professionals to gain access to your computer or sell you worthless security software.

What You Should Do:

  • Stay up-to-date on the latest scams in the country and in your local area with the scam-tracking map.
  • If you spot a scam, report it on our scam-tracking map so others can be forewarned and not fall victim.

Anytime you suspect fraud, you should alert the SD Division of Consumer Protections by visiting or calling 1-800-300-1986. They can investigate the issue and warn other South Dakotans to stay vigilant.

When it comes to fraud, vigilance is our number one weapon. You can join the Fraud Watch Network and receive alerts about scams like this happening in South Dakota. Any one of any age can join for free by visiting or to receive Fraud Watch Network alerts by phone, call 1-866-542-8172.
