Stay Healthy, Connected With Virtual Yoga Series

Living an active lifestyle is important at any time but especially with so many people feeling isolated amid the COVID-19 pandemic. That’s why AARP in Tampa Bay is sponsoring a free Zoom health and wellness series to help people stay connected safely.


The online sessions will run 45 minutes to an hour and include yoga instruction, with a focus on applying mind-body principles, as well as interactive discussions about maintaining sound mental health during stressful times.

The classes will be held Mondays at 9 a.m. and Thursdays at 6 p.m. until July. To participate, register at

“We recognize that a lot of people are trying to combat social isolation, so this is more than just healthy mind, healthy body,” said Michelle Cyr, AARP Florida community outreach director in Tampa Bay. “Let’s really connect and allow opportunities for fellowship.”

AARP in Tampa Bay is partnering with Sonya Quijada, a 28-year U.S. Army veteran who is a trauma-informed registered yoga teacher.

Quijada, owner of Tampa’s Q Wellness, began practicing yoga about 30 years ago as an extension of physical therapy after a military parachuting accident in her 20s.
