Social Security in the GOP Race for President

Caucus season is in full swing, and voters are assessing the candidates and evaluating their positions on key issues. From the President’s State of the Union Address in January to last week’s GOP debate, the future of Social Security has been a hot topic all year and is repeatedly cited by older voters across the political spectrum as extremely important to them.

To help inform voters about this crucial issue, AARP Iowa worked with Republican presidential candidates to provide direct-to-camera, unedited responses to the question of how they plan to protect and strengthen Social Security if elected. Each candidate was given up to two minutes to offer their position; their answers begin at the 13:30 mark.
