Senior woman walking out of bus, on to public transport platform

AARP strives to make our cities and communities more livable as part of our mission to empower people to choose how they live as they age.

That's why we're backing the City of Omaha's proposed Transit Oriented Development (TOD) policy.

The Omaha Rapid Bus Transit System will soon be operating as part of a major expansion of public transportation in the Omaha metro. TOD creates an opportunity for residents to help shape the future of development in neighborhoods along and around the transit route.

If you live in Omaha, show your support for Transit Oriented Development by signing the petition from Missing Middle Omaha.

In addition to making the city more sustainable and the support transit provides to the local economy, this is an important step toward making Omaha more age-friendly.

TOD is development centered around or located within walking distance of a transit station and includes a mix of uses, greater density and pedestrian-scale design. This type of development will support an age-friendly community where seniors can age in place in more convenient homes, close to services and transit.

Learn more about Omaha’s proposed Transit Oriented Development policy.

Sign the petition by June 29 to voice your support for TOD.
