The AARP Smart Driver™ Course is one of many programs offered by AARP Driver Safety. It’s the nation's largest classroom and online driver safety course, and it's designed especially for drivers aged 50 and older.

Individuals in the Watertown area have an opportunity to participate in an in-person class on Thursday, May 16, from 12:30-4:30 p.m. at the Watertown Police Department Conference Room, 128 N. Maple in Watertown.

You do not need to be an AARP member to register for this class.

When you take the AARP Smart Driver™ course, you could be eligible for a multi-year discount on your auto insurance. Plus, safer driving can save you more than just money. The course teaches proven driving techniques to help keep you and your loved ones safe on the road, including:

  • Important facts about the effects of medication on driving.
  • How to reduce driver distractions.
  • How to maintain the proper following distance behind another car.
  • Proper use of safety belts, airbags, anti-lock brakes and new technology in cars.
  • Techniques for handling left turns, right-of-way, and roundabouts.
  • Age-related physical changes and how to adjust your driving to compensate.

Pre-registration is required by calling Watertown instructor Nick Kranz at (605) 886-7799 or emailing dnkranz4@gmail.com
